MDM Publishing Ltd is sad to announce the passing of a key editorial advisory board member, Dr Paul Grimwood MBE, PhD, FIFireE, after a short illness. An internationally recognised pioneer of fire safety and fire engineering, he was renowned as a global innovator in our industry.
He served as principal fire safety engineer at Kent Fire & Rescue Service. Please read KFRS’s touching tribute here
Grimwood joined the London Fire Brigade in 1971 at the age of 18. As reported by Fire Engineering Magazine, Grimwood chose to remain an officer throughout his career. He has been quoted as saying, “I wanted to stay on a fire truck. Because I love firefighting (the real thing). I still strive for improvement every day in all areas of the fire department, even though I am no longer in active service. I see every incident and every exercise as an opportunity to get better. I encourage my colleagues to approach their profession in this way. I try to inspire them to become fitter, faster and smarter in their work. But also to enjoy what you do together because that is the most important thing.”
Paul helped ensure the editorial content in the launch issues of Asia Pacific Fire and International Fire Fighter magazines was on point and contributed several thought-leadership articles over the last 22 years. More recently, Paul joined Kent Fire & Rescue as Principal Fire Engineer in 2009 and was a key part of the MDM Publishing Editorial Advisory Board from its inception in early 2023.
Paul touched many lives in his professional career and will be sorely missed by all who knew him and enjoyed working with him.
