Automist, a fire suppression system from Plumis, leading manufacturer of intelligent fire safety solutions, successfully extinguished a blaze in a Norwich home. The system prevented the property and neighbouring houses from being seriously damaged or even destroyed.
The incident occurred at a property on Blackfriar Street after residents left a candle burning before going out for the day. While they were away the candle ignited nearby furnishings causing a fire to spread.
Automist detected the fire in under two minutes and activated, suppressing the flames. When the residents returned later that evening they found only minor smoke damage and some water soakage rather than a devastated home. The local fire service later confirmed that without the system the house would likely have suffered far greater damage.
Phil Bueno, Director at Intelligent Mist, an authorised Automist installer that fitted the system in 2020, said: “This was a true save. The fire brigade told the residents that not only had Automist saved their home, but also it had likely prevented the fire spreading to neighbouring properties. The homeowners had also kept up regular servicing which ensured the system worked exactly as intended when it was needed most.”
Installed as part of a fire strategy after property renovations, the system was fitted with two spray heads, one in the kitchen and one in the rear living room where the fire broke out. Following the incident Intelligent Mist engineers drained and reset the system. Internal data logs confirmed what had occurred and how the system had performed, with Automist likely providing a much faster response than a traditional sprinkler system.
Mr P R Valasa, the homeowner, said: “Coming home to find that our house could have been seriously damaged was terrifying but instead the system had already dealt with it. We dread to think what would have happened without Automist. It not only saved our home but gave us huge peace of mind. We have been telling all our friends about how effective it was.”
