Planning application for new fire station at Worksop approved

Bassetlaw District Council has approved Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service’s planning application for a new fire station in Worksop on the Vesuvius development site off Sandy Lane.

The new building will replace the existing station on Eastgate, which was built in 1963, and is being designed with the latest in renewable technology, self-generating up to 50% of its energy needs. The site will include a training tower, a generator and a fuel store, and will provide easy access to the A60, the A57, Worksop and its surrounds.

Worksop is staffed by both full-time and on-call firefighters and they will all move to the station when it is operational.

A building contractor is expected to be appointed in May and the new station is expected to open in October next year.

Chief Fire Officer John Buckley said: ‘I’m very pleased that the planning application has been approved. The new station will be built to the same high, energy-efficient standard as the other stations we have built in recent years, making it easier and cheaper to run. We look forward to being able to appoint a contractor and, eventually, to the firefighters moving in.’

Chair of the Fire Authority Councillor Michael Payne said: ‘I am pleased to see our plans for the new station progressing. The building will meet the current and future needs of the Service allowing it to continue delivering excellent services to the people of Bassetlaw.’

Fire Authority Member Councillor Sybil Fielding said: ‘I am delighted that planning permission has been granted to build a new fire station in Worksop. Our town and surrounding villages are in much need of this facility. It will provide our very committed firefighters a modern environmentally friendly building to train and work in.’
