The Crisis Managers Innovation Network Europe

The Crisis Management Innovation Network Europe (CMINE) is an open, cooperative and inclusive information network for sharing information, experiences, best practice and lessons learned among individuals, crisis-management organisations, researcher entities, industry and policy makers throughout Europe and beyond.

CMINE provides a superb window to participate in and observe discussions on innovation and thereby establish an unprecedented sharing of knowledge across all fields of Crisis Management and Disaster Risk Reduction.

CMINE also links stakeholders from existing projects, networks and initiatives to reduce repetition and fragmentation whilst encouraging new ideas, and identifying innovative solutions to improve European resilience.

Developed and funded within the H2020 mechanism as part of the Driver+ project, CMINE has the ongoing support of the Commission’s Research Executive Agency (REA) with a stated ambition to grow it to add users and functionality to the existing DG HOME ‘Community of Users’ and DG ECHO UCPM ‘Knowledge Network’. The platform is now managed by The Resilience Advisors Network (RAN) with the express intention of supporting individual crisis managers, project teams and research establishments.

Who uses it?

It is already well used by nearly 1,000 individuals. It also, for example, hosts the Network of Centres of Expertise, which were formed to support projects and initiatives that involve the trialling of innovative technical solutions in the field of Crisis Management. This network extends the scale of support available to members considerably.

At the time of writing, eleven practitioner organisations are offering support through the Network and more are anticipated:

• DCNA: Disaster Competence Network Austria
• PRIO: Peace Research Institute Oslo
• Emergency Management Training & Education Campus Vesta
• THW: Federal Agency for Technical Relief
• IFV: Dutch Institute for Safety

Each organisation has a speciality or geographic focus relevant to crisis management activities.

What can CMINE do for you?

Firstly, it connects you with others with a similar or the same interest or profession as you! Crisis Management can be viewed as a process of planning, collaboration and mutual support. CMINE provides a platform and communication means to make that a reality by connecting you with an international network of like-minded individuals and organisations with a range of complementary skills and experiences.

You’ll have the opportunity to engage with established groups and project teams, organisations and response teams, international players and policy setters as well as event organisers and trainers.

What can CMINE do for your project or team?

In practical terms, the platform can be used to deliver specific capabilities to projects and teams as part of an integrated communication and dissemination strategy:

1.  A quality assured approach to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This embeds the capability to place data protection at the core of your processes.

2. A specific membership and contact scheme that will maintain communicability amongst project members and other partners.

3. A live feed to promote information sharing amongst the project team.

4. A secure group for thematic discussions and debates.

5. A structured and secure document and media repository.

6. A portal to communicate project progress and requests to the wider Crisis Management profession.

7. Event publication facility immediately making your events known across like-minded researchers and practitioners.

8. Event registration, ticket sales/allocation and attendance management.

What does it cost?

The best bit… It’s FREE!!! Membership of the Network is completely free!

This ensures maximum exposure and accessibility for you, your subject or project. Registration and promotion of your project is also completely free! Just sign-up and you will be able to advertise and promote your work through the news, forum and event sections. You’ll also be able to promote your project by hosting information about it and spreading its work across the entire crisis-management profession.

Extended support is available for organisations or projects to take advantage of the comprehensive suite of facilities such as group hosting, confidential communication and event management. This can be facilitated at cost and details are available on request. CMINE is operated by a group of like-minded crisis managers so it only ever needs to cover its hosting, system and help desk costs.

If it helps, we are more than happy to develop communication proposals for your project based upon the full facilities of CMINE and to provide estimates for your project at proposal stage either based on a ‘provided service’ within your communications and dissemination activities or, for CMINE to become a named and highly respected partner within your consortium.

How to join

Simply visit www.cmine.eu and register to become a member. You’ll be asked to provide some basic information regarding your connection with the Crisis Management community and will be approved shortly afterwards by one of the admin team. From there, simply set up your notification preferences and request membership of any groups that interest you!
